Do you have a favorite song?
Years ago, I would've told you that it was impossible to select any singular song to claim as my favorite. There were too many great and different songs to pick only one. I suppose I've grown-up a little since then, perhaps I've become a bit bored with music in general, but I have a favorite song now.
The song is Crow, Cat And Snake by Bent Leg Fatima. Indeed, it is where the title of this blog comes from, and is my absolute favorite song. Musically, it's been compared to early Pink Floyd or Captain Beefheart. I personally think that someone tapped into my subconscious and distilled my entire life into a song. That's not so much true of the lyrics, which are more poetic than sensible.
To me, the song evokes a memory of a day that never quite existed, one that I've searched for. A day of golden light and natural wonder. A day of pure harmony with those you love. A day when the questions we ask are more important than the answers. A day so utterly satisfying that one could die at the end of it and be utterly at peace with one's life. If any song should be played at my funeral (and not be one of my own) this is it.
